Mujrim To Mien Bhi Hoon

While I was rubbing my cell phone's button's continuously for tons of sms , my colleage took the phone from my hand. This small lil phone which I always keep as a handy back up to carry along in un safe places. That's another story that why I do that but coming back to this phone he asked me frankly what is the price you bought this one for. I turned my head to him and with a grinning smile, it's cheap. Just a thousand one. He further asked me where did you buy it from and my answer was a local retail shop. Many people previously have asked me the price but none brought me to the thinking point which he did.
He asked me a question which I never expected. He said, "You bought a phone worth 2500 for its condition in 1000 rs. You didn't get the box the accessories and the charger along with.". I nodded my head and he added, "this confirms that the shopkeeper bought a snatched phone and you my friend carried out the chain buying it for yourself. Although you have a reciept and made a proper sale but this doesn't justify it."
I stood up from the chair , made a slight walk and my thoughts confirmed me that yes he was right. One way I was being part of the chain. A thousand rupee phone may not be a matter for me but how important it was for the man from whom it was snatched. I seriously can't have any idea. Thus I realized that I in no way can be a part of this chain and I have to bring to justice those responsible. I asked the local CPLC helpline right away about the IMEI history of this phone that whether this was snatched ever or not but there was no complaint recorded. This still couldn't give me relief as I can't hold something in my hand which makes me doubtful about its origin. On my way back home I visited that Local Mobile Shop and this is what shocked me. The shopkeeper denied that he ever sold me any such phone. My bad, I never wrote the IMEI no. on the sale reciept the day I bought it so couldn't prove anything against him.
I walked back home with this prayer that may Allah keep me out of this chain and forgive me for if I am responsible being a part of it. Will be glad if anyone of you can guide me the right way how to stop these chains and how can we stop it individually.

  1. Well..it's nice to see someone realizing it. There had been many incident and the people at the last end as you, think that they haven't done anything wrong but bought a cell legally and if they've got it cheap, it's their own luck.

There are so many crimes happening today and one reason is that we, one way or the other, promoting them. We HAVE to be responsible. Money is not everything...please thing for the society as it may come before you some day!

  2. That's what I agree umair. I shouldn't think i got it cheap and it's my luck and that's the reason I want to bring those down responsible for it and want to bring this cell back to the one who got it snatched earlier.
I want to change things. And like people like minded to come along me in this regard.

  4. I appreciate the way someone has started thinking on these societal issues and I'm hopeful that one day very soon we will see a society without such crimes if we all start to think over it seriously and act accordingly in cracking down those culprits involved in these heinous activities.

I believe that in this country having 170 Million of population, the moment we have only a Million such people who start to think sincerely about the root causes of these crimes and then endeavor to eradicate them, the day is not too far when we would see our country like a heaven on this earth.

The only thing we need in ourselves is being proactive and responsible. Once we take the ownership and start taking initiatives, the change will automatically start to take place.

In regards to identify the way as to how to stop these criminal activities, my suggestion and a request to all would be to join hands with CPLC by reporting these cases through internet/ email/ phones etc. Below is a link to lodge any complaints to CPLC through their website:
    http://www.cplc.org.pk/theft_form.php

Plus, in your case, I can help you find the original buyer of this phone through the CPLC only... as they will run the IMEI on their system and will find all the cell phone number(s) which have so far been used on this phone and they will find yours as well... ;)

Take good care and keep thriving to bring change in our country.

    @ Ahad: Jazak Allah

@ A H Kath: Thank you so much for taking out time and sharing your thoughts with us.
I agree to your solutions and initiative. As far as this particular case is concerned, they do not have any evidence recorded for this IMEI so they say they are not supposed to take any action against it.
However , my suggestion is if we can reach PTA
they can set some sort of regulatory body which can do these actions.

Rotate SMS to all mobile subscribers by all 5 companies
every week for the snatched mobile's IMEI numbers. In this way one can easily know if he/she is using a snatched mobile. Need input on the idea.

  7. My respected brothers,

I think this is the right place to get my queries answered.

Can anyone tell me what happens when one lodges a complaint to CPLC?
Has someone really got his phone back via CPLC?

I personally think 'NO'. I got my Blackberry stolen some 1.5 years ago, lodged a complaint immediately by filling the aforementioned form, but got nothing except a confirmation mail after a couple of weeks from a CPLC personnel telling me that my set has been blocked.

Even i didn't get my phone back but i was glad to know that it cant be used by someone else but to my surprise, i later came to know that these CPLC locked sets can be easily unlocked in no time at Saddar or similar mobile markets n dats all.

If this is the case, is there any advantage of lodging complaints to CPLC? Please do correct me if I am wrong.

    Regards.
    KA

  13. absolutely true....
a normal person in pakistan who wants a mobile phone wont see such things because most of the buyers are not educated they just want cell phone in low price anyways its a good way to start we can do this...

    ReplyDelete
  14. before buying a cell phone (specially a used one) any SENSIBLE person would first try to make sure that the phone he/she is purchasing...is not a stolen one. One can ensure that by asking for a box or by the level of trust you have on the person from whom you have purchased it.

After reading the story above, I can conclude that you did not had trust on the person from whom you had bought it, as well as you didn't cared whether he gave you the box/accessories or not...all bcoz of the low price he had offered.

My advice to you would be to apply a little more SENSE next time you do anything like that

  15. Very well-written :) I think you've covered everything so there's no need to add anything else. Yes, it's a good idea to bring a stop to cell-phone snatching but there's a whole mafia out there, plus some people who just do it "for fun" or to be part of the in-crowd so... hmm... hard job but I'm sure we can make a change if enough people are up for it :)

  16. thank you tazeen for sharing your thoughts. yes it is our job to stop the chain and i wish and hope we certainly can play a major role in it
